HERDADE DOS CORDEIROS
The current Herdade dos Cordeiros was founded by a noble family from Santarém that, at that time, called the space Herdade de Vale dos Carros.
Years later, in 1820, the property was sold to the Fonseca family, who began to explore its various resources, including cork, wheat, oats, corn and rice, using rudimentary farming techniques, such as ox carts to wean the grain.
Currently, it is possible to observe in the Herdade a chimney with a year and initials engraved, which represent the generation responsible for part of its recovery, giving special emphasis to Jovita Luizzelo Godinho, the owner who played a pivotal role in the growth of the Herdade.
In 2015, the estate was acquired by the Cordeiro family who were looking for a refuge where they could gather and spend time together, so they rehabilitated the entire space, making it warm and inviting for a stay in the heart of nature and full of tranquility.
In its 260 hectares, Herdade dos Cordeiros counts with the presence of several animals, 3 lakes, where in the larger one you can perform several activities and an infinite pool with a breathtaking view.
In October 1955, Jovita Godinho, in memory of her husband Colonel Carlos Luizzelo Godinho, had a chapel built in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, remembering the passage of the image of the pilgrim virgin through the estate.
The current owners have tried to keep its mystique alive, remodeling it in 2021 with a hand-painted portrait of Our Lady. It can also be observed its new ceiling and the Portuguese staircase, which give the chapel a modern image, preserving its historical features.
